Railways Further Behind on Same Week Orders

VANCOUVER - Mar 10/15 - SNS -- Cars supplied to shippers during the week ending February 16 continues to fall short of the number ordered by shippers, according to the last data accumulated by the Ag Transport Coalition.

During the week under review, the railways supplied 29%, or 2,111 of the 7,304 hopper cars ordered for delivery that week. This compares to 32%, or 2,798 of the 8,693 hopper cars ordered for delivery the previous week.

The actual number of cars spotted at loading facilities in the country was 7,035 cars, including 3,753 for CN Rail and 3,282 for CP Rail. The total included 4,924 cars which were ordered in prior weeks. Since the start of the 2014-15 marketing years, each railway has spotted an average of 3,600 cars per week.

Since the start of the marketing year, the two railways have not supplied over 22,884 hopper cars ordered by shippers for a shortfall of 11%.
