Oat Production Rising 15% in U.S.

WASHINGTON - Jul 11/14 - SNS -- Oats production in the United States is forecast at 75.5 million bushels, up 15% from 2013, according to the USDA 's latest crop production estimates.

If realized, this will be the fourth lowest production on record. Growers expect to harvest 1.15 million acres for grain or seed, unchanged from the Acreage report released on June 30, 2014 but up 12% from last year.

Based on conditions as of July 1, the average yield for the United States is forecast at 65.5 bushels per acre, up 1.5 bushels from 2013. Oat production in California is at a 133 year low.
