China Pessimistic About Crops

SHANGHAI - Aug 30/13 - SNS -- This year's dry edible bean crops in China will be smaller than hoped because of poor weather throughout the growing season in most major producing areas, according to presentations at this year's China Pulse Import and Export Industry Conference in Harbin.

Speakers at this year's conference said rainfall since September in much of Heilongjiang province has been the heaviest in 30 years, affecting both last year's harvest and this year's crops.

Traders reported significant problems with exports of beans last fall resulting from higher than normal moisture levels in export shipments. This year, seeding was delayed and crop development has been hurt by cool and damp growing conditions.
