Argentine Dry Bean Crop Plunges

BUENOS AIRES - Aug 23/13 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production in Argentina has collapsed from around 260,000 metric tons (MT) last year to just 95,700 MT this year, according to the latest crop estimates from Argentina's Ministry of Agriculture.

The most significant changes were a dramatic reduction in the estimated size of this year's white alubia bean crop from 130,000 MT last year to just 32,000 this year.

It is important to note that the Ministry first alubia bean production estimate was 62,700 MT, which was rejected by the country's processors and exporters as unrealistically high.
