Europe's Holiday Mood Quiets Beans

VANCOUVER - Aug 4/12 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets maintained their quiet tone, influenced by the fact Europe remains in summer holiday mode.

The situation is not helped by ongoing uncertainty over the state of some European economies as well as continued volatility in world currency markets.

North Dakota's dry edible bean crops are maturing at a quicker pace than normal, helped along by hot and relatively dry conditions. The week started with 98% of the state's bean crop in bloom, compared to a recent average of 79% by the beginning of August. Fully 85% of the crop was setting pods, with 9% fully podded and lower leaves yellowing on 1% of the crop.
