Upward Momentum in Myanmar Pulse Exports

WASHINGTON - May 25/12 - SNS -- Myanmar's pulse exports maintained their upward momentum through March, posting the fifth consecutive month over month increase in export shipments.

The month ended with 158,944 metric tons (MT) of beans and pulses being exported, an increase of 82% from the same period in 2011.

Mung bean accounted for 34% of the total exports, followed by Matpe (black gram) 30% and toor whole 19%. India and Singapore were the largest buyers accounting for 93,892 MT or 59%, and 23,811 MT or 15% of total exports, respectively. Additionally, 2% of the total mung bean exports or 804 MT were traded with China through border trades.
