Beans Anticipate New Crop

VANCOUVER - May 11/12 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets managed a mixed finish as thinking in markets is more strongly influenced by developing crops in South America and prospective plantings in the northern hemisphere.

As optimistic as markets are for a substantial increase in North American supplies for the coming season, they are equally worried about South American crops.

Processors in Argentina are worried about sclerotinia in some fields, as well as a higher than normal risk that a third of the crop will not fully mature before the first killing frosts strike the region.
