Myanmar February Pulse Exports Jump

WASHINGTON - Apr 11/12 - SNS -- The pace of dry edible bean and other pulse exports from Myanmar jumped in February, with shipments rising above both month and year earlier levels.

Shipments finished the month at 141,008 metric tons (MT), up 61% from 87,418 MT in February 2011. Mung bean accounted for 36% of the total exports, followed by toor whole 33% and matpe (black gram) 24%.

India and Singapore were the largest buyers accounting for 86,537 MT or 61% and 17,963 MT or 13% of total exports, respectively. Additionally, 7% of the total mung bean exports or 3,629 MT were traded with China 3,476 MT and Thailand 143 MT through border trades.
