World Bean Markets Hold Firm

VANCOUVER - Aug 26/11 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets finished the week on a mostly firmer footing, led higher by North American origin product.

This was clearly reflected in the spot market index for U.S. origin beans, which advanced to a new record high on the week, rising 37 points on the week to finish at 1545. Meanwhile, the index for grower bids inched two points higher on the week to finish at a new record high of 1378 points.

Markets were not hurt by the latest crop production report for Canada, which only estimated edible bean production in Ontario. Acreage and production estimates for Manitoba were not included in the report, perhaps because of uncertainty over the amount of beans actually planted in the province.
