South Africa Bean Crops Deteriorate

VANCOUVER - Aug 25/11 - SNS -- This year's dry edible bean crop in South Africa is expected to be smaller than first thought on account of deteriorating yields, according to the latest crop report from the South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS).

Discussing crops in general, SAGIS said worsening yields resulted from "heavy rains during this seasons’ harvesting period that contributed to yield losses and harvesting difficulties in certain parts of the country."

The reduction in edible bean production will increase the country's need to import light speckled beans from China. Unfortunately, traders in China say this year's light speckled bean harvest will be down, which should contribute to a firming price trend.
