Edible Beans Extend Price Gains

VANCOUVER - Aug 12/11 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by confirmation that this year's acreage is down over a third from last year at 1.265 million acres.

This helped lift the spot market index for U.S. origin beans to a new record high, with the index rising eight points on the week to finish at 1488.

Meanwhile, the index for grower bids jumped 35 points on the week to finish at 1343, rising five points above its previous record high of 1338 set in September of 2008.
