Myanmar's Exports Soar in May

WASHINGTON - Jul 14/11 - SNS -- Dry edible bean and other pulse exports from Myanmar leapt upward in May, totalling 156,987 metric tons (MT) of beans and pulses, up 127% from the same period in 2010, and up 93% from April.

India remained the most important destination, taking 64% or 101,119 MT of pulses. Singapore surged to the top of the export list, accounting for 12% of all pulse exports or 20,165 MT, while China was the destination for 6% of all pulse exports or 9,109 MT.

Commenting on exports, the U.S. agricultural attache for the country noted 23% of mung beans (green gram) shipped during the month, or 6,064 MT were traded with China through border trade.
