Myanmar's Exports Slip in April
WASHINGTON - Jun 13/11 - SNS -- Dry edible bean and other pulse exports from Myanmar slipped in April, totalling 81,307 metric tons (MT) of beans and pulses, up 42% from the same period in 2009, but down 6.7% from March.
India remained the most important destination, taking 52% or 42,428 MT of pulses. Additionally, half the mung beans shipped in April or 14,493 MT went to China through border trade.
Commenting on exports, the U.S. agricultural attache for the country noted mung bean (green gram) accounted for 37% of the total exports, followed by matpe (black gram) 36% and toor whole (pigeon pea) 14%. India and China were the largest buyers accounting for 42,428 MT or 52% and 16,418 MT or 20% of total exports respectively.
