Modest Strength in Edible Beans

VANCOUVER - Feb 12/11 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets maintained a firm undertone through the past week on weather problems in key consuming countries.

The latest crop reports from Brazil indicate the country is looking at a massive increase in bean production over last year, but local processors say a significant portion of the crop will have too low a quality to be usable.

This could see Brazil sell a larger quantity of edible beans than normal to the World Food Program for use as food aid, while importing good quality black beans from China and elsewhere.
