Myanmar Pulse Exports Ruse in December

VANCOUVER - Feb 10/11 - SNS -- Pulse exporters in Myanmar finished the 2010 calendar on a strong note, with shipments in December totalling 117,453 metric tons (MT), more than double the same month last year and almost triple November's movement.

The most remarkable feature about December, was that China nearly displaced India as the most important destination for pulses grown in Myanmar.

Mung bean (green gram) accounted for 54% of the total exports, followed by Matpe (Black gram) 28% and Toor Whole (Pigeon pea) 12%. India and China were the largest buyer accounting for 52,599 MT and 52592 MT or 45% each of total exports. Only 8,600 MT of Matpe ready cargo (RC) and 1,950 MT of Matpe Special RC were traded in Bayint Naung wholesale market.
