India Sees Record Food Grain Harvests

DELHI - May 25/23 - SNS -- India's third advance estimates for its 2022-23 production cycle egged total food grain production at a record 330.534 million metric tons (MT), up from 315.62 million last year and the previous five year average of 298.86 million.

Total pulse production is expected to exceed last year, with the combined kharif, rabi and summer pulse harvests estimated at 24.504 million MT, down from the second advance estimate of 27.81 million, but marginally higher than last year's 27.302 million MT crop and well above the previous five year average of 24.657 million MT.

The 2022-23 wheat harvest is now estimated at a record 112.74 million MT, compared to 107.74 million last year; while the rice harvest slipped from 111 to 110 million MT; coarse grains advanced from 51.32 to 54.75 million MT; and cereal grains from 288.31 to 303.03 million MT.

India now expects its soybean and rapeseed/mustard harvests to reach 14.976 million MT and 12.494 million.Total oilseeds production in the country during 2022-23 is estimated at a record 40.996 million MT, compared to 37.147 million last year.
