Brazil Optimistic About 2017 Bean Crop

PANAMA - Nov 11/16 - SNS -- More optimism about Brazilian dry edible bean production was expressed in the latest situational update from the Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (CONAB).

The combined harvest the country's three crops is now forecast at 3.074 million metric tons (MT), up from an initial forecast that output would reach 3.017 million in 2016-17. Last year's crop was 3.21 million MT and the previous year's 3.45 million MT.

CONAB now believes that stronger domestic markets will stimulate interest in the crop, with area across the country's three crops now expected to reach three million hectares, up from this season's 2.838 million. Yields are also expected to be 16.7% higher on average at 1,035 kilograms per hectare, versus 886 for the 2015-16 production season.
