Weather Worries Help Firm Beans

PANAMA - May 29/16 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets finished the week's trading on a generally firmer note as the number of sellers declined over worries about weather in some production areas.

Combined with ongoing demand from Mexico to cover its domestic shortfalls, this helped strengthen North American markets. As a result, the spot market index for U.S. beans finished the week 0.4 points higher at 154.

Gains in dry edible beans helped offset easing values in other pulse categories, with the result the world pulse price index inched up 0.1 points to finish at 248.1. By contrast, the Canadian index dropped 0.9 points to close at 244.6.
