U.S. Bean Seeding Underway

WASHINGTON - Apr 29/15 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's dry edible bean crop is underway in the United States, with overall progress running ahead of last year, judging from the latest state level crop progress reports from USDA NASS reporters.

For the states reporting seeding progress, a combined total of 15% of this year's expected dry edible bean crop has been planted, compared to 6% at this time last year.

Seeding progress in those states accounts for 8% of this year's total expected dry edible bean area, compared to 3% at this time last year.

Seeding is advancing at the quickest pace in North Dakota, with 21% of the expected area now in the ground, compared to just 2% last year and the previous five-year average of 12%. Progress in that state is critical because it accounts for 35% of this year's expected plantings.
