Brazil Optimistic About 2015 Beans

VANCOUVER - Mar 11/15 - SNS -- Brazil is more optimistic about the quantity of dry edible beans that will be harvested in 2015, modestly increasing forecast production for the country's three crops to 3.37 million metric tons (MT), compared to last month's estimates.

All the forecast increase comes from expectations of higher average yields. Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento (CONAB) believes they will be the second highest on record at 1,067 kilograms per hectare or about 952 pounds per acre.

The first crop is now in the ground. It is expected to come in at 1.2 million MT from 1.04 million hectares, or 36% of this year's total output. Second crop production has the potential to reach 1.3 million MT from 1.44 million hectares. The third crop is the least important, with CONAB expecting a 879,000 MT harvest from 679,300 hectares of beans.
