Slow Rabi Plantings Help Mood in Peas

VANCOUVER - Jan 11/15 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's rabi season pulses in India continued to advance at an unusually slow pace during the past week, with total area falling further behind both last year and the recent average.

Land in all pulses finished the week at 13.134 million hectares planted so far, down from 15.5 million last year and the recent average of 14.2 million hectares sown by the first week of January.

Pulse seeding is normally 95% complete by this time of year. Seeding pulses normally wraps up around the middle of February, suggesting the gap between this year and last year can still narrow.
