Seasonal Slowing in Bulk Pea Exports

VANCOUVER - Dec 16/14 - SNS -- Canadian field pea exports have slowed considerably as the year draws to an end, with preliminary data from the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) showing port clearances have trended lower since setting a single month record in September.

Unofficial data suggests almost 163,800 metric tons (MT) of peas could have been loaded to bulk conventional vessels from licensed terminals and directly primary elevators in November, compared to 207,900 MT in October and 52,800 MT the same month last year.

Slowing port clearances were expected. Some of the initial movement included cargoes which had been rolled over from earlier shipping positions on account of last season's logistical problems. Barring a return of severe winter over a large part of western Canada, there is little evidence last season's problems moving product by rail will be repeated this season.
