Easier Tone in World Bean Markets

VANCOUVER - Oct 18/14 - SNS -- Dry edible bean markets registered a mixed performance in relatively light trade through the past week.

Weighted average North American values improved despite modest weakness in international markets. This was reflected in a 0.6% increase in the spot market index for U.S. beans to 137.63 points, while the world export pulse index slipped 1.4 points to 162.1 on the week.

In its latest monthly review of Canadian dry edible beans Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg updated forecasts for 2014. It reports edible bean production this year will total 292,000 MT from 346,000 acres, compared to 232,000 MT from 215,000 acres in 2013.
