U.S. Bean Harvest Up 19%

WASHINGTON - Oct 10/14 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production in the United States is expected to total 29 million cwt (100 pound units) or 1.317 million metric tons (MT), according to the USDA's latest crop report.

Lower average yields resulted in a situation where production is up 18.5% over last year, even though seeded area is up 24.7% at 1.69 million acres. Harvested area is forecast at 1.63 million acres, 24% above the previous year.

The average United States yield is forecast at 1,787 pounds per acre, a decrease of 80 pounds from 2013. If realized, this yield will be the third highest on record, behind only the previous two seasons.
