WASHINGTON - Aug 12/14 SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in 2014 is forecast at 29.4 million tons, down 4% from last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production forecast.
Producers intend to harvest 893,500 acres for sugar and seed during the 2014 crop year, down 17,300 acres from last year. Expected yield for sugar and seed is estimated at 32.9 tons per acre, down 0.9 ton from last year.
