Myanmar Pulse Exports Drop in January

WASHINGTON - May 6/14 - SNS -- Pulse exports from Myanmar declined in January, falling below both month and year-earlier levels, according to the latest data from the country's ministry of commerce.

Low demand from China, Vietnam and Singapore during the Chinese New Year festival was a major reason for the decline, argues the U.S. agricultural attache for the country.

Matpe (black gram) accounted for 66.5% of total exports in January followed by Toor Whole at 21.6%, and Mung beans at 9%. India accounted for 77% of total exports followed by the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam. In addition, informal border trade exports (mainly to India, Bangladesh, and China) were reported at 8,942 MT in January.
