Overall Drop in French Pulse Area

PARIS - Apr 8/14 - SNS -- Field pea seedings in France have managed a modest increase this year, rising from 119,000 to an estimated 122,000 hectares, according to the country's agriculture ministry.

At this level, seeded area is below the previous five year average of 157,200 hectares and continues the recent trend, which has seen French farmers emphasis cereals and oilseeds over pulses.

France's agriculture department also expects farmers to decrease land in dry beans from 68,000 to 62,000 hectares, while leaving lupins unchanged at 3,000. The combined numbers point to an overall 3,000 hectare drop in pulse seedings this year.
