Peas Focus on Shipping

VANCOUVER - Feb 28/14 - SNS -- Field pea markets were little changed against relatively limited trading interest.

Neither importers nor exporters appear to be pressing markets for additional business at this time. Transportation problems in Canada and the United States have both groups sitting on their hands. Canadian exporters do not expect to see much relief from railcar shortages until April.

Shippers are worried by the unusually cold temperatures being experienced across western Canada. This not only compromises the ability of railways to move cargo, it could contribute to a later than normal opening of the port of Thunder Bay. That in turn, could force more cargo through Canada's west coast ports, helping keep fobbing capacity tight.
