No Disappointment in Stocks Report
VANCOUVER - Feb 8/14 - SNS -- Field pea markets were not disappointed with Statistics Canada's December 31 stocks in all positions report.
Inferred usage for the August through December period reached a record 1.825 million metric tons (MT) or 45.4% of the available supply of product.
Domestic usage appeared to set a new record, but that is because some ships loaded with peas in Vancouver had not yet sailed. Those ships may have still been at anchor in the port, waiting to finish loading other grains and oilseeds before leaving Canada.
Bids for feed peas have been largely competitive with human consumption markets the past couple of years, making it easier to believe that farmers are selling more product directly to feed mills than was the case before 2012.
