Brazil Crop Up, Supplies Still Tight

VANCOUVER - Jan 25/14 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production from the three crops which will be harvested in Brazil this calendar year could total 3.311 million metric tons (MT), according to Conab, Brazil's Companhia Nacional de Abastecimento.

Brazil's first bean crop was planted between October and December and is harvested between January and March. Conab thinks that crop will reach 1.308 million MT, up 35.6% from the 964,600 MT harvested last year. Seeded area was up 4.4% at 1.174 million hectares.

Most of the second crop is planted between January and March for harvest starting in April and wrapping up in July in most areas. This year's harvest is expected to be up 11.7% at 1.236 million MT from 1.3 million hectares, the same area as last year.
