NW Quadrant Finishes With Dry Soils

VANCOUVER - Oct 17/13 - SNS -- This year's specialty crop harvest in Saskatchewan is quickly wrapping up as farmers combine their remaining fields of canaryseed and chickpeas.

This is already switching the focus from this year's harvest conditions to next year's starting conditions. Concern has already been expressed about soil moisture reserves in Saskatchewan's northwest quadrant.

Looking at the province as a whole, Saskatchewan Agriculture estimates 4% of the province's farmland has excess moisture, while 60% of the land has adequate soil moisture reserves, 27% is short and 12% is very short.
