Late Seeded Pea, Lentil Fields Remain

VANCOUVER - Sep 26/13 - SNS -- Only a small number of late seeded fields of peas and lentils are left to be harvested in Saskatchewan, judging from the latest crop progress report from the provincial agriculture department, which also noted that last week's frost did not damage crops.

Around 1% of the peas and 2% of the lentils are still not mature enough to be harvested, reports Saskatchewan Agriculture, while all the remaining peas are in the bin and another 2% of lentils are ready to be straight combine.

Of all crops grown in the province, 71% have now been harvested and 21% are ready to straight cut or combine. Normally by the third week of September, 60% of all crops grown in Saskatchewan have been harvested and 23% is ready to combine or straight-cut.

Harvest progress is most advanced in the west-central region, with 86% of the crop combined, compared to 62% in the southeast; 79% in the southwest; 60% in the east-central region; 68% in the northeast and 73% in the northwest.
