Weaker Undertone in Peas

VANCOUVER - Sep 21/13 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their weaker undertone, though good movement to port in Canada is helping support grower and local dealer markets.

Since the August 1 start of the current marketing year, Canadian farmers have delivered 776,700 metric tons (MT) of peas into the primary elevator system, plus an unspecified quantity to splitters and local processing plants.

During the same period last year, farmers had delivered 562,900 MT, which was up from 490,700 in 2011. The pace of movement is giving markets confidence this year's record harvest will not be as much a challenge to market as it might have been in prior years.
