Peas Ease On Grower Selling

VANCOUVER - Sep 14/13 - SNS -- Field pea markets continued to weaken through the past week as the North American harvest entered its final stages and deliveries from growers maintained a strong pace.

Both processors and growers are reporting record yields in most areas, with quality also reported to be excellent. This is reflected in Saskatchewan Agriculture's provincial yield estimates which range between 2,160 pounds per acre in southeastern crop districts to 2,520 pounds in the southwest and 2,820 pounds in both west-central and northeast crop districts.

If confirmed by Statistics Canada, Canada will produce a record 3.79 million metric tons (MT) pea crop, with yields averaging a record 2,498 pounds per acre. This is over 100 pounds per acre above the record set last year.
