Mixed Week for Field Peas

VANCOUVER - Sep 7/13 - SNS -- North American field pea markets ended the holiday shortened week's trading on a mixed note, with Canadian farmers showing a greater willingness than American to accept lower prices.

This reflects the fact Canadian farmers are highly optimistic about this year's yields and fully expect a record harvest. Statistics Canada is expected to dramatically increase average yield forecasts in its October 4 crop report.

It would not be surprising to see yield estimates jump from 2,178 to 2,391 pounds per acre for a record 3.63 million metric ton (MT) crop forecast.
