SaskAg Sees Bigger Pea and Mustard Crops

VANCOUVER - Aug 29/13 - SNS -- Yield estimates from Saskatchewan's provincial agriculture department suggest that this year's field pea and mustard seed crops could be higher than forecast by Statistics Canada, while output of other pulses and specialty crops may be lower.

Saskatchewan's harvest is not complete, but with 10% of the mustard, 34% if the peas, and 20% of this year's mustard seed are now in the bin, provincial crop reporters are getting a better idea of what yields look like in their respective areas.

However, since this is not based on a survey of individual farmers across all regions, the data from Saskatchewan Agriculture is best viewed as an indication of yield trends and the potential direction of future crop estimates from Statistics Canada.
