U.S. Rice Inventories Drop 15%
WASHINGTON - Aug 27/13 - SNS -- Rought rice stocks in all positions in the United States totaled 30.5 million hundredweight (cwt) on August 1, down 15% from the total on August 1, 2012.
Stocks held on farms totaled 640 cwt and off-farm stocks totaled 29.9 million cwt. Long grain varieties accounted for 64% of the total rough rice, medium grain accounted for 33%, and short grain varieties accounted for 3%.
Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 4.13 million cwt, up 15% from a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 2.49 million cwt of whole kernel rice and 1.64 million cwt of second heads, screenings, and brewers rice.
