Canada's Pea Exports Sink in July

VANCOUVER - Aug 21/13 - SNS -- The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) reports 26,100 metric tons (MT) field pea were exported through licensed terminal facilities which are required to report to it all grain movement in July. The CGC data does not include exports in containers or from non-reporting terminals.

The CGC reports exports are up from the 5,400 MT shipped the same month last year but down from the 127,100 MT shipped the previous month. This lifted season to date exports to 1,969,200 MT since the August start of the current marketing year, versus 1,605,800 MT during the same period last season.

So far this calendar year, 1,163,700 MT of peas have been exported through bulk terminals, compared to 578,000 during the same period last season. Pea exports finished the 2012 calendar year at 1,353,500 MT, versus 2,316,900 in 2011 and 2,112,100 in 2010.

Of field peas exported in July, 24,900 MT moved through terminal elevators in Vancouver and 1,200 direct from Prairie elevators. The CGC does not report on exports through cleaning plants or in containers. So far this season, exporters shipped 1,893,100 MT through Vancouver; 9,000 MT through Thunder Bay; and 37,100 MT direct from Prairie elevators.
