U.S. Sugar Cane Crop Declines

WASHINGTON - Aug 12/13 - SNS - Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in 2013 is forecast at 30.4 million tons, down 6% from last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates.

Producers intend to harvest 911,100 acres for sugar and seed during the 2013 crop year, up 8,700 acres from last year. Expected yield for sugar and seed is forecast at 33.3 tons per acre, down 2.4 tons from 2012.
