Spot and New Crop Peas Converge
VANCOUVER - Aug 2/13 - SNS -- Field pea markets finished the week with spot and new crop markets converging over the pending availability of new crop product in Canada.
Green pea markets tried to find some support from rainfall events in North Dakota, hoping quality would be affected. However, only 13% of the state's pea crop is rated as mature, down from 83% at this time last year and the recent average of 47%.
Fully 98% of the crop is at or beyond the flowering stage, which means that the majority of the crop was not in a position for quality to be affected by rain.
