Australia Farmers Intend to Reduce Pulse Area

VANCOUVER - May 7/13 - SNS -- Australian farmers intend to reduce the amount of land in pulses this year, with some areas having more potential for the final seeded area to decline further, suggests the latest crop report from Pulse Australia.

As it stands, total area in pulses could drop 7% to 1.603 million hectares. Average yields would see total output inch up from 2.096 to 2.107 million metric tons (MT). It is important to note that Pulse Australia did not forecast production for 2013. Those estimates are by STAT, based on the recent five-year average yield for individual crops.

Land in kabuli chickpeas and lentils is expected to be unchanged from last year; while farmers intend to reduce land in desi chickpeas, field peas, and Angustifoius lupins. On the other hand, farmers intend to increase seedings of broadbeans and albus lupins.
