Bigger S.A. Bean Crop Forecast

PRETORIA - Feb 26/13 - SNS -- South Africa's dry edible bean crop is expected to rise 16% above last year as a result of higher seeded and higher forecast yields.

In its first estimate of 2012-13 summer crop production levels, The South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS) said output should reach 55,500 metric ton (MT) from 43,550 hectares, compared to 47,695 MT from 39,750 hectares last year. If realized, output would be just ahead of the recent five-year average of 53,587 MT.

Discussing other summer crops, SAGIS said it expects the South Africa's sunflower seed harvest to reach 624,210 MT from 504,500 hectares; up significantly from last year's 522,000 result. Soybean output is expected to total 914,350 MT from 515,000 hectares, compared to just 640,000 MT last year.
