Peas Enter Holiday Period on Quiet Note

VANCOUVER - Dec 17/11 - SNS -- Field pea markets entered the Christmas and New Year's holiday period on a relatively quiet note, with little fresh business reported and end users showing some reluctance to buy.

Canadian exporters reported limited demand, though some processors indicated they were seeing some fill in buying as grower deliveries into the primary elevator system have been slowing in recent weeks.

Actual and prospective bulk conventional pea exports have now pushed past the million ton mark in Canada, suggesting onfarm stocks are becoming very tight.
