India's Pulse Area Almost Unchanged

DELHI - Dec 9/11 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's winter or rabi season crops has fallen behind last year pace, according to the latest seeded area update from India's agriculture department.

Of the three major crop categories, pulses are up 1,2% from this time last year, while land in all grains in down 2.4% and land in oilseeds is down 0.2% from this time last year.

It had been hoped that pulse area would rise enough this winter so that the rabi season harvest would rise as much over last year as the summer or kharif crop had declined.
