Mixed Finish in World Beans

VANCOUVER - Sep 16/11 - SNS -- World dry edible bean markets finished the week on a mixed note, with a strong undertone in some classes and regions, and a weak tone in others.

North American markets finished the week on a strong note because of the belief not enough beans were grown this year to cover domestic demand. At the same time, there is a fear that unless prices are significantly higher than they are today, acreage will not be pulled away from corn, wheat and soybeans.

This helped lift the spot market index for U.S. origin beans 37 points on the week to allow it to finish at 1602. Similarly, the index for grower bids jumped 74 points on the week to finish at 1457 points.
