Saskatchewan Harvest Speeding Forward

VANCOUVER - Sep 1/11 - SNS -- Saskatchewan's harvest made excellent progress during the past week, with 21% of all crops now in the bin, with another 22% swathed or ready to straight-cut, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture's weekly Crop Report.

Harvest progress for all crops is now one point ahgead of the recent five-year average, and well ahead of last year. By this time last year, farmers in Saskatchewan had only been able to harvest 8% of all crops and had 22% swathed or ready to straight-cut.

Harvest progress varies across the province. The southwest has 37% combined and 16% swathed or ready to straight-cut; the southeast has 29% combined and 25% swathed or ready to straight-cut; the northeast has 8% combined and 35% swathed or ready to straight-cut, and the northwest has 5% combined and 19% swathed or ready to straight-cut. In east-central Saskatchewan, 18% of the crop is combined and 37% swathed or ready to straight-cut, and in west-central Saskatchewan 13% of the crop is combined and 30% swathed or ready to straight-cut.
