Light Trade in Edible Beans

VANCOUVER - May 7/11 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets managed a mostly firm finish in light trade during the past week.

The absence of significant trading interest was reflected in the spot market index for dry edible beans in the United States, which was up 16 points on the week to finish at 1247. Meanwhile, the index for grower bids was up seven points at 1096.

Despite ongoing selling of old crop beans by China, markets are less confident about supply in the coming marketing year because of prospective acreage reductions in North America and China.
