Peas Maintain Firm Tone

VANCOUVER - Apr 30/11 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by good demand for product by processors completing food aid business in the United States and export sales in Canada.

The confidence of exporters was helped by Canada's seeding intentions, which revealed farmers intended to slash seeded area more than expected from 3.45 to 2.75 million acres.

Markets had been looking for pea seedings to be mainly unchanged because of the record pace of export disappearance from Canada. However, strong movement was not enough to overcome the impact of a poor relative income performance versus canola and wheat.
