Further Decline in S African Bean Crop

VANCOUVER - Apr 20/11 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production in South Africa will be smaller than initially expected on account of worsening yield forecasts.

The South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS) is looking for production to come in at 47,620 metric tons (MT), down from both an initial forecast of 50,520 MT and last year's 52,255 MT harvest.

A declining yield trend is not welcome news to a sector which has been unable to meet its longstanding goal of producing at least 75,000 MT of beans a year.
