Firm Finish For Field Peas

VANCOUVER - Apr 15/11 - SNS -- Field pea markets ended the week's trading on a relatively firm note, helped by tender activity in the United States and India.

Though state trading companies in India are no longer able to be subsidized if they lose money on peas bought for commercial purposes, they can be subsidized for losses on pulses bought for use by the public distribution system.

This may be the reason the State Trading Company of India tendered to buy 25,000 metric tons (MT) of Canadian whole yellow peas for May shipment. This points to continued strong movement of peas from Canada through at least the end of May.
